Parquet and tiles? Tips, ideas, and creativity!

The combination of parquet and tiles is a trend that has appeared in architecture and design magazines for several years, creating not only interesting aesthetic combinations but also various functional advantages for those hesitant to lay parquet in certain areas of the home.
We have already discussed how, despite fears and prejudices, wooden floors can comfortably find their place in environments considered more delicate, at risk of humidity and temperature fluctuations, such as bathrooms and kitchens. It is especially in these places that new and unusual combinations of styles and colors emerge.

The ideal combination between tiles and parquet

Generally, the common recommendation is to prefer flooring that is consistent and uniform in terms of materials and color variants, matching both the furniture and the materials already used in the environment.
However, if you are someone who loves to experiment by combining different shapes and colors, or if you are looking for durable materials for specific areas, or if you want to create optical divisions between adjoining spaces, then the contrast between parquet and tiles helps to decorate in an original way while also being functional.
Fascinating visual effects can be achieved by running the parquet boards horizontally or vertically in relation to the orientation of the tiles; or by creating irregular mosaic or interlocking patterns, and playing with colors between light and darker shades. Choosing hexagonal tiles and pairing them with rectangular boards can add a touch of elegant extravagance to bathrooms and kitchens, while choosing to use colored cement tiles surrounded by neutral wood will give personality and breadth to a large open space or a long corridor.

Under the bathtub, the parquet: wood and tiles in the bathroom, kitchen, open space

In bathrooms and kitchens, as well as in entrances, there remains a concern that frequent foot traffic, stones, splashes, and potential dirt stains, may have a damaging effect on the parquet.
If you are not comfortable using wooden flooring everywhere, our advice is to lay ceramic, marble, or stoneware in the cooking area and the parts adjacent to sinks, bathtubs, and shower enclosures, then surround them with boards made from resistant and elegant woods such as teak or oak, all available in our Signature and Dream collections.
You can apply a similar solution to typical open spaces or living areas: the table and chairs can rest on tiles or marble, thus enjoying additional prominence compared to the rest of the wooden flooring.

The solution is original and impactful, as is the idea of using specific tiles, such as cement tiles, to create continuity between the kitchen island cladding and the adjacent area.
