You’ve been told that having cats, dogs, and parquet living together under the same roof is an impossible mission.
Well, they are wrong!
The secret to peaceful coexistence between parquet and pets lies, as always, in choosing the most suitable wooden floor for the circumstance, for example, in terms of resistance and color, combined with the care you take of your pets and your boards.
Following some simple precautions will help you prevent wear on your wooden floor or, at the very least, hide any dents that our friends might make during play.
Let’s start with dogs, examining the moment of returning home from the usual walk or from running around in the garden. It is certainly possible that they bring with them dirt residues or, worse, gravel and other small impurities that get stuck under their paws; in this case, the simplest precaution is to immediately clean them, carefully removing all residues with a cloth, preventing them from scratching the parquet surface, more or less visibly.

How to deal with animal scratches on parquet?
Certainly, between one paw swipe and another, between one dash and another – perhaps to greet you joyfully – you must consider that scratches on the parquet are always possible. For this reason, we recommend preferring robust woods like oak, in our Dream collection, as well as those natural shades that better hide small imperfections from view.
You can discover the differences between the types of Oak used for parquet in our dedicated article.
In fact, masking scratches on parquet will be even more effective if you opt for a matte finish and rustic brushed surfaces. Our oiled floors, treated with Osmo oil-wax, are particularly suitable, thanks to the waterproofing effect created by the surface finish, even if your cat or dog, alas, leaves some unwanted reminders on the floor.
One last tip: preferring an oiled floor will allow you to repair only the affected part of the floor, whereas if you choose a varnished parquet, besides making scratches more visible, you will not be able to repair the boards locally.
What to do if you find urine on the parquet
If you discover urine, or something else, on your parquet it is best to act promptly to avoid stains and odors. Carefully dry the urine stains before they soak into the wooden floorboards, causing them to deform over time. Only use a cloth, though, because using a hairdryer or other sources of hot air could be more harmful than helpful. It is also better to clean with neutral products or just a damp cloth, preferably away from the curious gaze of the puppy: it might think you are playing and that its prank was appreciated.

Woodco for humans and animals
You can choose Woodco floors with the assurance that the treatments and finishes we use are suitable for a harmonious coexistence between wood, dogs, and cats, such as: brushing, sandblasting, planing, saw cutting, and micro-beveling. Additionally, our boards are impregnated with natural oil, in the name of longevity and resistance, even to scratches.
As true allies, there are also natural oil-wax products for daily cleaning or more thorough cleaning, such as the multi-purpose bactericidal cleaner Neutral Cleaner, or the intensive cleaner for oiled floors Soft Cleaner Aloe and Intensive Cleaner, or even Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner, a periodic maintainer for surfaces treated with oil-wax.
