Walnut parquet, for a royal floor

Used for creating wooden floors and furnishings already in the royal and noble residences of past centuries, walnut parquet is especially known in its two major varieties, namely European walnut or national walnut and American walnut, also known as canaletto walnut. Their respective scientific names are Juglans Regia and Juglans Nigra, and Juglans means Jupiter’s acorn: besides the idea of nobility, walnut is linked to deities and is present in Greek mythology as the tree of wisdom.

Versatility: the second name of walnut parquet

Both national and American walnut share the characteristic of versatility. That is: walnut wood floors are distinguished by their sobriety and elegance and their classic and austere touch, yet they can successfully adapt to a wide range of environments.

You can notice this by taking a look at the Woodco catalog and our previous dedicated posts: Signature boards stand out whether paired with country furniture or, instead, combined with spaces and complements with a more contemporary, urban look and predominantly light shades.

European walnut or American walnut parquet

Common traits of European and American walnut parquet

Both American and European walnut have a medium degree of hardness and stability, which means that parquet made from these wood varieties is less affected by temperature fluctuations and humidity. This is an important aspect as it allows walnut boards to be installed without issues – with either floating or glued installation – even in an elegant bathroom or a rustic kitchen.
On the other hand, there are peculiarities and properties that differentiate the two families.

Walnut parquet: differences between American and European wood

The disparities between the two types of walnut parquet emerge especially when considering the choice of color, a decisive element for matching with furniture and related accessories. If your goal is to create a sober atmosphere, without sacrificing a touch of creativity, the right product for you is national walnut. It is widely used also due to its multiple veins and shades: a palette of colors ranging from orange and honey tones to very dark tones, creating interesting and original chromatic effects.
No less valuable and appreciated for its elegance is American walnut. It is suitable for you if you prefer more uniform tones because its pronounced darker and more uniform brown color does not present obvious shades. It is also a successful line, gaining popularity especially in recent times.

Walnut parquet, why choose it

Woodco has the walnut parquet for you

And although it is often associated with classic furnishings if not with outright antiques, it can also effectively complement avant-garde, minimalist, or more daring and glamorous ones. Walnut essence expresses its characteristics best whether polished, more sober and elegant, or brushed. In patterned formats like herringbone, smaller than the board, the typical color variations of walnut essence are enhanced, creating color combinations with a sure impact.

In addition to the already mentioned Signature collection, which features six different walnut parquet colors, Woodco can offer you, in combination with light walls or paneling, the ultra-matte boards of the Dream series, which includes additional walnut products.
