The prefinished parquet, or multilayer, and the solid wood parquet are essentially the two major categories of wooden flooring.
Solid or traditional wood parquet has always been considered of high quality because its boards, up to 22 millimeters thick and ranging from 220 to 2,000 millimeters in length, are made from a single layer of noble wood essence. We can have solid parquet in oak, beech, fir, walnut, cherry, etc.
Prefinished parquet, on the other hand, consists of a layer of three to four millimeters of noble wood glued onto two or three layers of other wooden materials. The length of its boards ranges from 400 to 2,200 millimeters, while their width is usually between 70/90 mm for small planks and 300/400 mm for large boards.
Installation times and methods: the differences between prefinished and solid
In terms of aesthetic performance, prefinished parquet, a family that includes the Dream collection by Woodco, has nothing to envy from traditional parquet and allows for a wide variety of styles and installation geometries. Additionally, it boasts the speed of installation.
Prefinished parquet boards are suitable for both glued and floating installation and are fully usable and walkable after one to three days.
In contrast, solid wood flooring, which must be either glued or nailed to a battened subfloor, finished, and varnished after installation, requires patience: you will have to wait at least 40 days before you can walk on it, as these are the traditional times required for installation.
Choose your parquet, choose your treatment
Although it may seem that the cost of the material makes the initial price of prefinished parquet generally higher than that of solid parquet, in reality, the installation of the latter is significantly more expensive.
Traditional wooden flooring has always been appreciated for its longevity, also due to the fact that, in case of wear, it can be frequently sanded, in addition to being initially treated with varnishes and other treatments based on special oils or wax. Treatments that the new generations of prefinished parquet also undergo, which are treated with varnishes or oils that effectively protect them from exposure to chemical agents or damage inevitably caused by foot traffic.
Solid parquet, prefinished parquet, or… Woodco parquet
Moreover, while a solid wood floor should preferably undergo the first sanding at 10-15 years after installation; for prefinished parquet, this can be done even after about 25 years. In the range of Woodco prefabricated products, the Dream line stands out, as we mentioned earlier. These collections are made from Slavonian oak, walnut, and teak with a thickness ranging from 10 millimeters to 15 millimeters. We must also mention that the Dream collection is completely and absolutely safe because its finishing treatments are ecological and solvent-free.
