Parquet: naturally sound-insulating

Parquet, known for its timeless beauty, offers much more than just an attractive appearance.

Among its typical features as both a wooden floor and a wall covering are certainly its insulating properties. If wooden boards have been successfully used for indoor environments since ancient times, it is also because this material is perfect for protecting against humidity, insects, retaining heat, and soundproofing.

Improved acoustics thanks to parquet

Similar to other materials or fibers of mineral or vegetable origin, wood boasts sound-absorbing properties and is therefore capable of significantly improving the acoustics of a space.

Due to its naturally porous structure, it absorbs sound waves and facilitates their dissipation, reducing echo effects and giving voice superior clarity; it is no coincidence, for example, that wood has always been one of the preferred materials for theater stages.

Moreover, thanks to the intrinsic and natural irregularity of its surface, sound waves are dispersed evenly, contributing to sound insulation from external noise.

The right wood for perfect sound

Naturally, not all types of wood guarantee the same level of sound quality or noise protection, and usually, harder woods like oak also boast a more pronounced insulating power; the same can be said for those with a more porous surface structure.

Furthermore, the finish should not be overlooked as it certainly plays its part: when it is rougher and less regular, sound absorption and acoustics benefit. But it doesn’t stop there: while structural differences play an important role, the precautions taken during the installation of the boards and the arrangement of the furniture should also be considered to maximize the soundproofing and sound-absorbing functions.

Secrets of acoustic insulation with parquet

To get the most out of wooden flooring, installation plays a crucial role. It is essential to lay the boards evenly and without gaps, through which sound and noise could otherwise propagate. Additionally, the use of sound-absorbing underlays beneath the parquet, which are usually made of polyester, are pressure-resistant and act as effective sound barriers.

Regarding furniture, optimal sound insulation is achieved when the parquet is laid throughout the entire area of the home or office. By combining parquet with furniture, carpets, and strategically placing stereo speakers, it is possible to create a perfect environment for impeccable sound and ensure even more satisfying results. Thanks to parquet, it is therefore possible not only to achieve an elegant and timeless style but also an environment with better acoustics compared to other materials, such as stoneware or marble, which are less sound-absorbing.

Choose parquet for your flooring and discover the harmony between beauty and functionality.
