Antiqued and smoked parquet: the differences<\/h2>\n

An antiqued parquet is a wooden floor<\/strong> whose boards are treated with techniques such as planing or deep brushing to simulate wear from foot traffic and time. To achieve this effect, the parquet is darkened with colors darker<\/strong> than the original, enhancing all possible shades and color ranges of the initial brown. <\/p>\n

It is a surface treatment<\/strong> based on chemical-mechanical processes<\/strong> that gives the parquet a more lived-in, elegant, and austere appearance, suitable for classic-style interiors.
\nEqually fascinating is the smoked parquet variant<\/strong>, similar in color to the antiqued version, but resulting from a process that affects the entire board, not just its surface<\/strong>. It ensures superior protection from moisture\u2014the parquet can be safely installed in bathrooms, kitchens<\/a>,<\/strong> and outdoor spaces\u2014and from potential fungi, mold, woodworms, and termites; it also offers greater stability.

Bleached or pickled parquet<\/h2>\n

We refer to bleached parquet when a white oil or varnish<\/strong> is applied to the surface of the boards<\/strong>, in light shades ranging from ice to ivory, including light gray. The aim is to highlight the wood grain<\/strong>, and the effect largely depends on the type of oil or varnish used, as well as their quantity and density. Bleached parquet can appear smooth or brushed with special rotary brushes in Teflon<\/strong>; or sanded to return it to its original color.
\nIn line with the idea of “lightening,” pickled parquet<\/strong> results from a treatment where the oak grain is highlighted by lightening it with a lime wash and a thermal treatment<\/strong>.
\nAlternatively, for a similar visual impact, the boards can be varnished or oiled and then brushed\u2014i.e., scratched\u2014to give greater visibility to the grain itself. <\/p>\n
